When Rape Stops Being Funny, But Not Really.

19 Jul

Recently Daniel Tosh, (comedian and Comedy Central host) found himself in some controversy over a rape joke he made toward a heckler during one of his stand-up routines.  During Tosh’s set at the Laugh Factory, Tosh said, “Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl [referring to an audience member who “heckled” him about rape jokes not being funny earlier in his set] got raped by, like, five guys right now? Like right now?”

Excuse me while I laugh at the joke.  Okay I’m back.  Tosh then went to his Twitter and tweeted “the point i was making before i was heckled is there are awful things in the world but you can still make jokes about them.”

Here is the thing, Tosh is a well known comedian and therefore, so is his humor.  If this female was so offended by rape jokes, why in the hell was she there to begin with.  As Whoopi Goldberg said, “do your research.”  Did she really believe that Tosh would alter his stand up routine solely because she was “offended”?  That’s like going to a whore house and saying the whores are too “whore-y”.  The point is if you don’t like whores stay away from them and that includes Daniel Tosh.

This is just another case of the self-centered asshole who thinks that their feelings matter over everyone else’s.  Listen, rape is a serious issue and in the specific context of an actual raping it’s not funny.  However, comedians should be able to joke about any and every topic.  Tosh wasn’t seriously asking for this woman to be gang raped.  I will be the first to admit Tosh is a complete d*ck head, but even he wouldn’t really wish that upon a person.  There are too many complaints in this world and not enough laughter!

Luis C.K (aka the rape defender) also caught some heat for unintentionally tweeting he loves the Tosh.O show while the whole rape debacle was happening.  Click here to see  this hilarious video of him explaining himself and what comedy is about.

That being said, I shall purpose a toast to the comedians that stand by their comedy.  Cheers!
